Beyond the Classroom: Nimbus Aid Foundation Equips Teenage Girls with Financial Skills for a Brighter Future

In a move to empower the next generation of financially independent women, Nimbus Aid Foundation has partnered with Sycamore and Dansol High School to equip teenage girls with essential financial literacy and entrepreneurial skills through its EQUIP HER 2026 initiative in Lagos.

Organised to commemorate the International Day of the Girl Child, the initiative brought together schoolgirls for practical learning sessions designed to strengthen their understanding of money management, savings, budgeting, investment and entrepreneurship.

The programme aimed to introduce young girls to financial education at an early age, encouraging them to develop the confidence and knowledge needed to make informed financial decisions and pursue economic opportunities.

Speaking during the programme, Edward Israel-Ayide, Trustee and Director of Communications at Nimbus Aid Foundation, emphasised the importance of preparing girls for financial independence before adulthood.

He explained that the foundation, which has spent approximately five years supporting female entrepreneurs, recognised the need to extend its empowerment efforts to younger girls.

According to him, providing financial education during adolescence would help girls understand the value of money, develop responsible spending habits and recognise opportunities to transform their talents into sustainable businesses.

The initiative also encouraged participants to explore entrepreneurship in creative fields such as fashion design, writing, acting and other skill-based industries.

Representing Sycamore, Finance Operations Lead Eniolaoluwa Oluwole highlighted the importance of translating financial knowledge into everyday decisions.

She explained that financial literacy goes beyond understanding financial terminology, stressing the need for young women to develop practical skills in budgeting, saving and managing their resources responsibly.

Oluwole also reaffirmed Sycamore’s commitment to supporting women entrepreneurs through access to credit facilities, financial guidance and other resources that promote business development and economic independence.

The programme featured award-winning Nollywood actress, fashion designer and content creator Darasimi Nadi, who encouraged participants to embrace creativity, collaboration and financial discipline.

Drawing from her experience in the creative industry, Nadi challenged the girls to recognise the economic potential of their talents and explore opportunities to build small businesses, even with limited resources.

She also encouraged them to support one another, explaining that collaboration and shared skills could create opportunities for entrepreneurship and collective growth.

For participating students, the programme provided valuable lessons on financial responsibility and preparing for the future.

Christine Azuru, an SS3 student at Dansol High School, expressed appreciation for the knowledge gained, particularly the importance of developing good financial habits early in life.

Another participant, Anuoluwa Onosile, described the experience as an opportunity to better understand financial discipline, entrepreneurship and the importance of making decisions that support long-term goals.

Founder of Nimbus Aid Foundation and Chief Executive Officer of Nimbus Media Limited, Wale Adegoke, explained that the EQUIP HER initiative emerged from the foundation’s experience supporting women-owned businesses.

Having assisted more than 40 businesses, the organisation identified recurring challenges affecting female entrepreneurs, including limited access to business development opportunities, training and essential resources.

These experiences informed the decision to introduce financial education to teenage girls, helping them develop the foundational knowledge required to navigate future economic challenges.

Adegoke further disclosed plans to establish EQUIP HER as an annual programme and expand its reach to schools beyond Lagos, creating opportunities for more girls across Nigeria to benefit from financial education and entrepreneurial training.

The foundation also called for increased partnerships and sponsorship from private organisations to strengthen the programme’s sustainability and reach.

As conversations surrounding girls’ empowerment continue to evolve, initiatives such as EQUIP HER 2026 demonstrate the importance of equipping young women with practical knowledge that extends beyond traditional classroom learning.

By introducing financial literacy and entrepreneurship at an early age, Nimbus Aid Foundation and its partners are helping girls build confidence, develop economic awareness and recognise their potential as future entrepreneurs and financially independent women.

The initiative reinforces a growing understanding that empowering girls is not only about providing access to education but also ensuring they possess the knowledge, skills and opportunities needed to shape their financial futures.
