The Development Research and Advocacy Centre (DRAC), a Ghanaian non-governmental organisation, has won the Excellence in Development Research and Policy Advocacy Award at the fifth edition of the Ghana Philanthropy Awards 2026.
The award recognises the organisation’s contribution to development research, policy advocacy and efforts to improve the well-being of vulnerable and underserved communities.
According to a statement issued by DRAC’s Founder and Executive Director, Jonathan Adabre Atia, the organisation was selected following a nomination and independent evaluation process conducted by research consultants and professionals in philanthropy, development and social impact.
The selection process considered the organisation’s impact, commitment to improving lives and contribution to national development.
Organised under the theme, “Honouring Purpose-Driven Giving for a Better Ghana,” the Ghana Philanthropy Awards celebrates individuals and institutions whose work addresses development challenges and improves the lives of communities.
DRAC’s recognition also highlights the importance of evidence-based research and policy advocacy in shaping public policies, strengthening development programmes and addressing social challenges.
The award will be formally presented at the Ghana Philanthropy Awards Gala scheduled for November 19, 2026, at the Alisa Hotel in Accra. The organisation is expected to receive a commemorative plaque, certificate and medal of honour.
Reacting to the recognition, Atia reaffirmed the Centre’s commitment to advancing evidence-informed development interventions and advocacy that respond to community needs and support sustainable development in Ghana.
The recognition places a spotlight on the role of research-driven organisations in ensuring that development policies and programmes are informed by evidence and the realities of the communities they are designed to serve.
