Beyond the Classroom Foundation (BTCF) is set to convene the Kabusa Advocacy Dialogue this Wednesday, 17th December, 2025. This event follows the Foundation’s earlier Safer Communities Engagement Meeting in Kabusa, part of its ongoing commitment to advancing girls’ rights, protecting children, and fostering stronger, safer communities through the Beyond Her Odds Initiative.
The Advocacy Dialogue will provide a platform for community members, including parents, teachers, youth leaders, and local authorities, to openly discuss the most pressing challenges affecting girls in the community. Key issues to be addressed include teenage pregnancy, school dropout, early marriage, gaps in school-based guidance and support, and broader social concerns such as drug abuse, cybercrime, and peer pressure.
“Creating safer communities for girls begins with listening to the people who live in those communities,” said BTCF’s Program Lead. “This dialogue is an opportunity to hear directly from those on the ground, parents, teachers, and young people themselves, so that solutions are not only practical but truly owned by the community.”
The session will explore strategies that families, schools, and community leaders can implement to create safer learning environments, strengthen parental and community support, and ensure that girls remain in school and thrive. Discussions will focus on actionable steps, such as promoting moral and ethical conduct, improving guidance and mentorship programs, and establishing mechanisms to prevent and respond to teenage pregnancy and school dropout.
This Advocacy Dialogue builds on the findings from the August 15th, 2025, Safer Communities Dialogue in Kabusa, where community members identified teenage pregnancy as the most urgent issue, closely linked to early marriage, poor health outcomes, and limited economic opportunities for girls. The session also revealed gaps in access to comprehensive sexuality education, youth-friendly health services, parental guidance, and social support networks.
BTCF has used insights from these engagements to develop a Policy Brief for the Kabusa Community, which outlines strategic recommendations for prevention, education, and community engagement. The upcoming Advocacy Dialogue will serve as a follow-up to review these recommendations, gather additional community input, and strengthen commitments to action.
“Our goal is to ensure that the voices of community members guide every intervention,” the Foundation added. “When schools, families, and local leaders work together, we can create systems that protect girls, empower youth, and build stronger communities.”
Beyond the Classroom Foundation invites all community members to attend and actively participate in shaping the solutions that will safeguard girls’ education and wellbeing in Kabusa.
